1. Introduction

ScreenGrab AI ("the App") is built with privacy as a core principle. This policy explains how the App handles your data when you use it.

2. What Data Gets Handled

Screenshots and Captured Content

When you capture a screenshot, the image data lives temporarily in your browser's memory. It's gone once the analysis finishes. The App doesn't store it anywhere.

API Keys and Settings

If you configure cloud AI providers like OpenAI, Grok, or Google, your API keys get saved locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage (`chrome.storage.local`). They never touch any server controlled by the App.

Conversation History

When you ask follow-up questions about captured content, the conversation history is temporarily held in your browser's memory during the session. It's discarded when you close the result panel or navigate away from the page.

3. How Your Data Gets Used

Your screenshots are used strictly for:

• Pulling text out of images (OCR)
• Providing AI analysis and insights about what you captured
• Answering follow-up questions you ask about the content

The App doesn't use anything for advertising, marketing, or anything beyond making the features work for you.

4. Third-Party Services

Local Processing (Recommended)

If you set up Ollama or another local AI model, everything happens on your computer. Nothing leaves your device. This is the most private option.

Cloud Processing (Optional)

When you choose to use cloud AI providers, your screenshot images get sent directly to them:

Each provider handles data according to their own policies. We recommend reading them if you're concerned about how they process things.

5. Data Storage and Retention

• Screenshots: Processed in browser memory, then discarded. Not retained.
• API Keys: Stored locally in `chrome.storage.local` until you remove them or uninstall the App.
• Settings: Stored locally until you clear them or uninstall.
• Conversation History: Held temporarily in-page memory during the session, discarded when the result panel is closed.

The App doesn't run any servers or databases that hold your personal data.

6. Data Sharing

We don't sell, rent, or share your data with anyone. Your information only goes somewhere when:

• You explicitly configure a cloud AI provider
• Legally required to do so

7. Your Rights

You're in complete control:

• Access: All your data is local. Check Chrome's developer tools if you want to see it.
• Deletion: Uninstall the App and everything goes away.
• Portability: Export through Chrome's extension management.
• Opt-out: Use Ollama (local) and nothing ever leaves your device.

8. Security

Security measures in place:

• API keys are stored using Chrome's secure storage API (`chrome.storage.local`)
• No data moves anywhere without you configuring it first
• Local processing via Ollama keeps sensitive documents completely on your device
• Storage-based queue architecture ensures reliable operation even when the browser suspends background processes
• SSN patterns are automatically redacted from extracted text

9. Children's Privacy

ScreenGrab AI isn't meant for kids under 13. We don't knowingly collect anything from children.

10. International Users

If you're outside the US, cloud providers might process your data in different countries. Using local processing (Ollama) keeps everything within your device, regardless of where you live.

11. Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. If anything significant changes, the date at the top will be updated accordingly.
